You probably won't get to hear this tune from Indian Agent's debut album on a rooftop overlooking the vast Nevada desert like I did last weekend, but "All Over Town" is a solid soundtrack choice no matter where your travels take you.
This jazzy and playful track, featuring Budo, is the work of visual artists and musicians – Yéil Ya-Tseen (Nicholas Galanin), OCnotes (Otis Calvin III), and Zak Dylan Wass – and is now out on Homeskillet Records. They hail from Alaska and Seattle, coming together to produce and perform music that reclaims a history of oppression and violence, and promotes a focus on place, purpose, and lineage.
An 'Indian Agent' was once a post filled with settlers appointed by the colonial U.S. government to control Indigenous populations, which oversaw unspeakable acts in the name of the United States of America.
In adopting this title, these three artists aim to "shift and reverse the brainwashing and destruction of past Indian Agents," and "become the agents of our instinctive desire: sharing peace, light and vision with the world."
