Forget the bells and the hell with whistles. Christopher Martin and Chris Phillips don’t need much to make fantastic music. This duo simply employs an electric guitar, a drum kit, and their voices to create big ‘80s pop.
Their last album, SUPERMEGAFANTASTIC, was recorded in Austin’s Hill Country back in 2012. The boys worked with producer Matt Noveskey (Blue October’s bassist) at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Recording Studio to get their sound to analog tape and mixed it with vintage gear. Now they are ready to release more music for fans.
“In The Summer” is a teaser off IAMDYNAMITE’s upcoming album, Wasa Tusa. This seasonal song is far from the spacey, slow dream pop I’ve been consuming lately. This snazzy track makes me feel like I’ve fallen back into the neon days when MTV still played music videos. I hear “Money for Nothing” and traces of The Police in this song. These are compliments, naturally. Chris and Christopher's contagious harmonies set this dynamite project apart from the rest of the noisemakers.
Want more? Wasa Tusa is out Friday, July 24.
