Mallets. Dear lord, the mallets.
Hounded's newest track, "On My Side," is well produced, poppy, uptempo, and tropical. It's everything that a early summer heater should be as DJs scour the internet looking for something light enough to play during their early afternoon festival set.
That's not to say this track is intrinsically bad. In fact, it's quite the opposite. It sounds great. And it will probably do very well amongst the demographic this is clearly aiming towards. The fact of the matter is that it's safe.
It follows the tropical leaning house music playbook almost down to a science. Warm synths, nothing too abrasive, mallets making up the majority of the melodies, and a floaty vocal that hovers over the verses.
Again, not bad. Just not exciting.
What do I know, though. This track is more than likely going to crush every pool party, every early festival slot, and every pre-game for the next couple months - before eventually being relegated to the playlist in your local Sunglass Hut.
