Manchester surf music, you ask? Surfing in Manchester? That's a thing? Not quite, but Manchester based muso Ryan Kennedy and his band have produced a sound that is reminiscent of California surf pop circa-1960s, and yet it fits so neatly into today's contemporary repertoire of alternative indie pop.
With their electric guitar riffs and piano synths, Horsebeach was described by blog Chairman of the Board as "The Stone Roses on holiday in Hawaii with Jonny Marr," and it's no wonder Kennedy is garnering a lot of international attention.
Horsebeach has released one full-length self-titled album earlier this year (in which the first vinyl pressing sold out, the second is now available on Bandcamp), and the band has just flown back from playing at Primavera's Winter Festival in Barcelona, with some more tour dates lined up later this year.
If you're lucky enough to be in Manchester on December 20, head along to The Kings Arms to catch Horsebeach's headline show.
