It's been a while since we've heard from them, so it makes me happy to report that Melbourne electronic duo Hopium has released a new track this week.
Hopium made huge waves in 2014 with only two original releases to their name. To give you a sense of the scale of the waves they made, "Dreamers" amassed a huge number of plays on SoundCloud and was rightfully recognized as one of the better tracks of 2014 via an appearance on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2014.
"Right Now" nods more in the direction of stylish and modern R&B. Filled with warped and wonderful vocals and staccato-like strings, it is a more uptempo, stronger sound and more heavily beated affair than their previous releases.
Once again the music video from Hopium is worth a shout out. The dancer in me enjoys it for its showcase of simple movement. The video also captures an additional interpretation of this track (as also evident from the track's artwork) as a steamy, slippery and erotic capturing of the right now. The vid is viewable right now from Hopium's website.
