Personal story time: I dislocated my shoulder over the weekend and had to have it put back in hospital. While it was a truly awful experience, the heavy sedation part of the process was rather enjoyable.
What does that story have to do with a music review, you ask? Press play on the new single "Dreamers"from Melbourne's Hopium to experience a musical version of that dream-like state the (medically administered) drugs put me in!
We've already been well versed on the mysterious duo's music, with their debut single "Cut" blowing us away earlier this year. This time around, they've enlisted some assistance from a familiar source, Phoebe Lou of the recently RIP'd Snakadaktal. Hopium have taken a softer line on this new track, with deft percussion surrounded by a wall of synth which would relax even the most hardened mind. Vocally this is a winner too, with Lou's typically silky voice working in tandem with Hopium's crooner before winding down the track with an interesting spoken word outro.
These guys are an intriguing project, and I'm truly excited to hear what they put together in the near future. Until then, enjoy this musical sedative, I sure am.
