Why do we like this?
Hoodlem, the anonymous duo by way of Melbourne, have been pretty secretive to date, letting their music speak for itself -- a pretty great way to run things, as I'm sure you'll agree. What hasn't been a secret has been my infatuation with these guys since their debut single "Through" dropped last year, followed by a second single "Firing Line" which I included in my Best of Australian Music 2013 list.
Now, they've released their first new material of the year, with "Old Friend" another gem to add to their slowly growing collection. Hoodlem has a real ability to create incredibly smooth, sultry music, despite glitch being a huge component to their production. They do this with plenty of sparkling guitar licks, off-tempo percussion, and an abundance of tempered electronic influence -- all topped off with super sassy vocals. If I was only allowed to listen to one type of music for the rest of my life, it would probably be something like this.
This is the part of the review where I usually tell you what's coming up for an artist, but all I know is that there's one, perhaps two, new tracks in the very near future for you to keep an eye out for.
