"Back To Life" is the crunching lead single from Holy Wars' debut album Mother Father. Dedicated to Holy Wars’ fierce front-woman Kat Leon’s parents (who she tragically lost within months of each other in 2015), Mother Father is an emotional collection of alternative rock tunes delving into Leon's state of mind, with "Back To Life" an absolute monster.
Harking back to the 90s with a touch of Weezer about the opening chords, "Back To Life" evolves into an anthemic rock number with hints of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Veruca Salt. A dark and brooding tune addressing Leon's feelings after her parent's passing, "Back To Life" is the perfect introduction to Leon's heart on the sleeve writing and the bands energetic rock style. Talking about the track over email Leon had this to say;
“'Back To Life' was the first song we wrote for Holy Wars. This song was the first lyric I wrote about the passing of my parents and it really was that first moment when I started to feel a spark of life again. The lyrics show how I was feeling at that time, I felt this overwhelming sadness and darkness in me that made me feel like I was walking through mud while at the same time, emerging into a new identity. It was also the representation of my new beginning.”
Mother Father is set for release November 3.
