"History," is the newest release from Brisbane/Melbourne project Holy Holy, a follow-up single to their critically acclaimed debut EP The Pacific.
Their first singles received heavy radio rotation and quickly earned them a devoted fanbase, and it's easy to see why. What I love about Holy Holy is how unique and refreshing they sound. Their music is riveting and emotionally charged; it's powerful and it's unlike anything else. But at the core of what makes this band so good, is, quite simply, the fact that they write really damn good tunes. "History" is a captivating track, with perfectly structured chords, beautiful, flourishing melodies, and a rich, driving rhythm.
In terms of structure, this is a standard track with verses, choruses, bridges, and the like – but in terms of quality, this is anything but standard. From Oscar Dawson's churning guitar chords and wailing riffs, to the huge, powerful and lyrically superb lead vocals of Timothy Carroll, it's hard to believe that these guys released their first EP a mere six months ago.
Set to open for Boy and Bear on a nationwide Australian tour, I have no doubt that these guys are on the way to somewhere really special.
