Why do we like this?
Another day, another mysterious band releasing new music on the Interwebs. This time it's UK-based sisterly duo Hockeysmith. While information is short on the Cornwall siblings, what I have discovered from the online world is the two apparently live in a caravan and may or may not have been a band under a different name since 2011. Not very helpful, right?
What doesn't need explaining is their majestic first single "Now I Want To." It's very much like the picturesque coast of the sisters' homeland. Slow waves of synths build as whispered vocals creep along the shoreline, growing with intensity before crashing hopelessly onto the cliff face, ghostly harmonies spraying the fresh sea breeze. Dark, ethereal and visceral -- this is the reason I listen to music.
