Why do we like this?
Late last year, UK duo Hockeysmtih caught my attention with a string of singles, ranging from brooding lo-fi to experimental electronica, and everything in between. Clouded in mystery, it was soon revealed siblings Annie and Georgie lived in a caravan in Cronwall, where they began making music together. After four months of quiet, the sisters have returned with the fantastic "But Blood," a myriad hybrid of influences and sounds that's absolutely stunning.
"But Blood" has it all: grinding guitars, nostalgic synths, gorgeous harmonies, and melodic percussion, creating an intense piece of music that builds to a kinetic finale. There are splashes of Warpaint's lush harmonies and Dum Dum Girls' knack for pop that can be heard throughout "But Blood," but above all, it's a just an awesome tune I can't get enough of.
It's also worth checking out the trippy film clip, directed byDavy Evans, the man responsible for The xx's Coexist album art, as well as the videos for singles "Chained" and "Angels."
