Why do we like this?
The experimental offshoot of TV On The Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band has a sound assuredly from Brooklyn, featuring Josh Lerner (Lee "Scratch" Perry, CocoRosie), Ryan Sawyer (Lone Wolf and Cub) and Alex Holden (Big Numbers) -- they all met through their respective bands.

Tunde's looping vocals create a psychedelic effect that pairs seamlessly with the ambient backdrop to form one of the more impressive super group/side-project efforts of late. Aside from the obvious similarities to TV On The Radio, at times I was also reminded of Atoms For Peace and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, though it's obvious their influences run much deeper.

As a band also consisting of animators, the video for the song 'The Blast the Boom" is a mixed media extravaganza animated by Tunde and Alex themselves. It features melting flower paintings with exploding petals and some type of transcendent, explorer dog-type collage character.

Their untitled debut EP is streaming for free. Clocking in at just over 26 minutes, it hints at a lush future, with the promise of a full length album and tour to follow.
