I have a confession to make: I'm a total sucker for a groovy bass line. As a former dancer, there's something about the thick sound of a bass that I just can't resist swaying to. Mix that with wailing electric guitars, and I'm hooked.
Hidden Charms are a London four-piece who make music that pulls influences from many genres. On "Cannonball," they combine Black Keys-esque rock instrumentation with smooth, layered vocals to create an irresistibly confident track.
They describe this single as garage rock, but I can't help but focus on the funk element. Perhaps a genre like "garage funk" would be more appropriate. All the grunge and DIY grit of garage rock with bass lines straight out of a Jungle track.
Sounds pretty damn good to me.
