After lead singer Nai Palm's breast cancer diagnosis in 2018, the future of Hiatus Kaiyote was all but sure. However, the Australian neo-soul outfit is back. Back with hard-hitting drums, swirling synthesizers, and wonky guitar licks...and even horns and strings this time.
Joined by legendary Brazilian composer and arranger, Arthur Verocai, Hiatus Kaiyote has also announced their upcoming album of the same title, which comes out June 25th, more than 6 years after their latest album, Choose Your Weapon. That record featured the same experimental, boundary-pushing soul music that we're hearing on this cut. I'm not sure what kind of magic is in the soil over in Australia, all I know is that I want some of it.
So, June 25th. I'm going on hiatus till then, with this song as my soundtrack. See you guys in June.
