Why do we like this?
I'll be honest, I didn't really know what to expect from this album. I spent a brief time with the 2009 self titled debut, recalling not much more than a "meh" feeling after no more than one or two listens. About a year later, and Here We Go Magic is back with "Pigeons", a somewhat more melodic and complex piece of work than what I found "Magic" to be. Clocking in at just under 50 minutes, "Pigeons" meanders across the indie spectrum, layering a spacy blend of psychedelic riffs in creating an enjoyable musical journey.

We throw around the word "layered" a lot, but I'll do it once more in describing the feeling of this album. Well orchestrated, the sound is both free flowing but very calculated. At times it feels busy, but its all put together in good fashion, and the melodies are generally complementary. Listening to the album, I find myself giving it my full attention almost unknowingly.

Pigeons, taken wholly, is an interesting piece. It definitely crosses genres, somewhat dramatically, and almost feels a bit disjointed. However, each song has a little something different, which certainly makes for a fresh listen. All in all I can't say that I love this album, or this band, but it is in deed good music and deserves legitimate respect from the community. I wouldn't say Here We Go Magic has struck gold with this one, but its absolutely worth a listen.
