This is about as brand new as an act can get. Last time I checked, Her Habits had two followers on SoundCloud, and one of them was me.
So allow me to introduce you. “Her Habits” is a duo consisting of singer Joanie Wolkoff and producer Sanford Livingston. These two have worked together as another outfit called Foxe Basin and are re-launching with a new name and entirely new sound.
Joanie is originally from Toronto and has been through an incredible creative and emotional journey to now find herself based out of Brooklyn. The depth of her energy and creative talent reads easily from her bio. Her background spans independent film, illustration, and fashion. She is clearly a student of the world, having lived in many diverse countries and cultures. Joanie has a degree from a university in Paris and spent time living on a farm in rural China.
Bring that kind of life experience and background to your music and it’s going to make for something pretty interesting. I like the contrast in “Slip Away” between Joanie’s dreamy synth vocals against its edgy and heavy bass line.
“Slip Away” will feature in an upcoming EP from Her Habits called Northerner.
