I'm really excited to premiere the new track from Sydney's Hedge Fund, "Summer's Getting Shorter."
The DIY four piece today release the follow up to last year's "Boyfriend." The track was self-produced at Free Energy Studios in Sydney by singer/songwriter Will Colvin.
The track immediately opens out into a hazy, psychedelic soundscape, before the mid-tempo beat and wistful melody transport you to those final days of summer, burnt out and uncertain - the seasonal comedown.
The heady rhythm continues to build, shaping itself into a smooth, catchy groove. I really love the range of the melody, especially when it hits those rich notes at its deepest points.
Finding middle ground between the punch of post-punk and easygoing psychedelia, it's a unique, inviting atmosphere, with a totally relatable story to tell. The perfect track for the final days of Australian summer.
Hedge Fund are set to support British India on a few Australian dates next month; they'll also be releasing a video to accompany "Summer's Getting Shorter" - so be sure to keep an eye and ear out for more.
