Why do we like this?
Dear readers, I won't lie -- I had never heard of Heavenly Beat before listening to this track (which is surprising because Heavenly Beat comes to us from John Peña of Beach Fossils fame).
"Honest" is a taste of the artist's second, full-length album, Prominence. Harmonica (or mimicking synths -- who knows, these days) lends it a darkly nostalgic edge, but an uncareful listener could press play and just relax without anxiety. That element drives the track, as the beat and supporting loops play catch up. It's not forcing you to get caught up in the melodrama and maybe that's the very issue at hand. Take it as you like.
Prominence is out October 15 on Captured Tracks.
