Why do we like this?
The Hear Hums are Mitch Myers and Kenzie Cooke, a duo who work their way between heavy, organic percussion and trancey synth while chiming in with heart-wrenching wails. Hear Hums latest album Opens is simply soul-brightening, backed by a live experience that can take a crowd full of humans and transform them into a pack of aborigines, hopping and slithering to the music.
Thriving in the newfound cultural epicenter of downtown Orlando, Florida, they are part of a resoundingly authentic community of artists and showgoers that have bound together and blossomed forth with solid gems.
"Critters Canopy" is missing the vocals of the other tracks on their album Opens, but that's okay -- all of the other elements in the song are able to steal my attention -- I even forget to breathe at certain points! Toying around with the tempo, beginning with a xylophone that lapses into a fleeting drumbeat, with backing sounds courtesy of the rainforest -- it might be hard to grasp at first. But the concoction of psychedelic and native sounds leave the listener in awe and want.
After thoroughly abusing the play button, I was able to break myself free long enough to bring it to you. They're one of the +102 acts filling Orlando for the annual moving festival that is Total Bummer 3D. Tickets to said event also come with options of pranks calls, postcards, a family dinner and even a 15 minute slot in the lineup to do whatever you want. See Hear Hums (and you?) there!
