I just want to jump inside of this synth explosion drenched in rich bass and creamy vocals. I'd like to immerse myself fully, on repeat, without relent, and then let it go...with a probable revisit further down the road.
This intensity is the very same mechanism that serves as the inspiration for "Happiness!?" and can't we all relate?
When asked about the time during which the song was written, the 26-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer explained:
"[It was written] toward the end of a short-lived, cinematic situationship, I could feel us slipping apart even though it hadn’t become fully apparent yet. When I was with them, I’d feel intoxicated and overcome with happiness. We’d say sweet nothings to each other, but still, both of us knew it was going to end. I’d stay up till 6-7am with friends partying just to push it away, but the fear of the connection ending loomed over me "
It takes a certain vulnerability to create a song around this topic. Is this not what artists do though? Do they not make sense of their most tender realities by revisiting them through the medium we call art, and in this case, music? Balanced by, as the artist himself puts it, 'enjoying and cherishing the moments of happiness we can find.'
Whatever the case, this song serves as a moment of happiness for me and I hope it does the same for you too.
