Today is a good day. Why? I have the pleasure of reviewing singer and songwriter Hannah Lucia's "Don't Hold Out." By way of London and now home to New York City, Lucia's emotional vocals and stripped-down electronic production delivers a right-on-time euphoria.
Earlier this year, her debut track "Lights Out" produced by Ben Bronfman (Kanye West, M.I.A) garnered support from BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Mistajam and Huw Stephens, and listeners alike, were captivated by Lucia's raw and sexually veiled tones.
Lucia has a dark and moody vibe that morphs into an electronic-pop melody at a drop of a beat. There is an unhinged beauty about the subtley and volatiltity of her stripped-down Her latest, "Don't Hold Out," is an aggressively romantic vocal composition with her signature subtle sound in tow.
In a social media era saturated with junk and mediocrity, Hannah Lucia emerges through the fray, the smoke and mirrors as the standard. Like a super hero, her sultry and raw production stand out amongst a few, committed to protect us from artists who recycle, sample, and remix their body of work. Her music will be the catalyst and the constant factor for the UK explosion in the US.
