Hamjam is the latest export from Perth’s burgeoning psychedelic scene, home to Tame Impala, Pond, Nicholas Allbrook, and more.
The group includes members of Gunns and The Growl, but Hamjam is particularly low-key, with a distinctive shoegaze droopiness.
“Love” is their most recent single, and it is one hazy, tripped-out journey through the land of lo-fi. Deliberately loose, the echoey vocals and wobbly guitars lay the foundation for the sleepy psychedelic track.
The song itself doesn’t really grow or change that much, allowing you to really sit back, relax, and enjoy the sweet ride. It’s really interesting how something so simple, so not compelling in terms of melody and rhythm, can keep you so hypnotized and intrigued for more than three minutes.
Hamjam’s self-titled debut EP will be relesed on October 10 via local label Pilerats.
