I almost passed out the first time I heard this song today, because I legitimately forgot to keep breathing. Nandi Rose Plunkett of Pinegrove is breathtaking and brilliant on her own as Half Waif, and "Back in Brooklyn" is her crown jewel. The combination of lush piano and her disarming vocals are killer, like a full symphony from a single soul.
Quickly making a name for herself, she opened for Julien Baker this past year and I soon found myself listening to her music more than Baker's. But until today, I simply haven't heard anything this stunning since Emily Haines released her solo album Knives Don't Have Your Back in 2006.
To say I am eagerly anticipating Half Waif's full album, Lavender, later this month, would be an understatement.
