Why do we like this?
Melbourne's Halcyon Drive sure do a good job of passing off as a full band! The indie pop duo has established themselves on the local live scene for their energetic stage shows, using a combination of guitar, percussion, and looping to create enough noise for a group twice their size. This energy has also recently been harnessed into the recording of their new single, and the results are pretty special indeed.

"Whitewash" is Halcyon Drive's first release since midway through last year, and it's definitely their most accomplished work to date. Switching from rampaging walls of percussion and guitar fuzz to much more subdued, dreamy segments where emotionally charged vocals are able to take center-stage, the track flows nicely. They've enlisted the help of noted producer Steven Schram (San Cisco, Little Red) and Brian Lucey (who has mastered tracks for the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Black Keys), and while it's nicely polished, it still maintains that upbeat, urgent nature that the guys have made their signature sound.

If you're keen on this one and want some more Halcyon Drive tunes, you won't have to wait too long -- their EP is slated for release later this year!
