One of the new stars of the burgeoning Melbourne, Australia electro scene, Gypsy and the Cat are making waves worldwide with the release of their debut album, Gilgamesh. Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers began making music together in a garage just over a year ago and are now on the verge of big things after a remix of their first single "Time to Wander" was included on renowned French clothing/music label Kitsuné's Maison 9 album
along with Two Door Cinema Club and Jamaica (among others).
The album Gilgamesh is uplifting summer music at its best with synths mixed in with conventional guitar, drums, bass, keyboards"¦ and even a recorder! "Time to Wander" is aptly named, providing the listener with an emotionally lingering track laced with tranquil vocals, perfect thought-provoking music. Other standout tunes include "The Piper's Song," "Jona Vark," and "Breakaway," which provide an alternative to pumping basslines and overproduced dance music.
Gypsy and the Cat have recently moved to London to complete their album after appearing at the Splendour in the Grass and Parklife circuits in Australia, and supporting the likes of the Strokes and Foals. They will also be playing the Big Day Out Festival shows in Australia in early 2011.
