From the deliciously named duo who brought you remixes of Odesza's "White Lies" and Ra Ra Riot's "Absolutely" comes a pleasantly surprising rework of Guster's "Long Night." A standout track from the alt-indie outfit's latest album Evermotion, Dim Sum puts their laid-back but danceworthy spin on it.
The French producers capitalize on the trickling metallic chimes, woozy chords, and mellow vocals of the original. They add soft sweeps and funky electric guitars, transforming "Long Night" into a bass driven groove filled with unexpected serendipity.
This is my favorite kind of remix. Recently we've seen an insurgence of huge remix packages from electronic artist remixing other electronic artists' work. Don't get me wrong, it's totally cool, but it's missing a bit of the magic you get from two different genres coming together.
Hats off to the producers for recontextualizing "Long Night," refreshing and breathing new life into it. Hear the original version and check out more remixes from Dim Sum.
