GUM, the solo project of Tame Impala and Pond band member Jay Watson, has a new psychedelic jam for us. “The Underdog,” as well as the other single “S.I.A,” marks his first releases of 2018.
This track, that was recorded with some members of Koi Child, begins with all those good vibes you expect; sweet horns, sparkling synths, persistent yet laid-back drums, a mellow baseline and culminates in a bouncy guitar solo. His vocals have that psychedelic washed-over, faraway feel we all love, with lyrics about how there's always someone in the way when looking for the underdog.
This offering from Jay was very nice to wake up and listen to; I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
