Why do we like this?
Sydney's Guineafowl are fast becoming an Indie Shuffle favorite. Fresh from a jam-packed tour of the U.S. "“ which included a performance at the CMJ Festival "“ the five-piece have been touring their new single, "The Lie Is," around Australia.
After releasing their debut EP, Hello Anxiety in early 2011, Guineafowl have been charming fans with their crowd-pleasing pop-rock and endearingly enthusiastic performances. This is a band that improves with each time I see them live.
"The Lie Is" is the first single from their eagerly anticipated debut LP, due for release next year. Starting out as a solo act, the band has really meshed as a unit, and their single highlights this fact. A fuller sound, great vocal layering and a typically throbbing tempo indicate "The Lie Is" is bound for heavy rotation. The highlight is the way the track builds, with commanding guitar hovering above the prominent keyboard and synth lines.
Guineafowl don't try to complicate things, they just make great indie-pop and perform as if their lives depended on it. Anticipation builds for the new album!
