GRMM's been on my radar for some time now, and I've really enjoyed keeping track of his releases over the past few months. From his hip hop-infused collaboration with Kilter to the sultry "Circles" featuring Kele-collaborator Yasmin, it's clear that the Sydney producer, real name Benn Markos, has an artillery as diverse as it is strong.
So, I'm particularly excited that I get to premiere this track with you here today. "Travolta Cool" is, well, really, really cool. Deeper and more subtly flirtatious than his previous releases, the single opens on breathy synths and the husky vocals of Crooked Colours' Phil Slabber (my love for his vocals has been well documented).
There's something very seductive about the rhythm underlying the melody and that hazily ambient soundscape -- I feel completely entranced, drawn in by the swinging syncopation.
24-year-old GRMM will be releasing his debut EP later this year, alongside a string of national tour dates.
