Grimes is the artful work of a woman from Montreal, Canada -- Claire Boucher -- who's a powerful force within the dreamy synth-pop movement... and it doesn't look like she's slowing down any time soon. In fact, her newest single, "Oblivion," will probably leave you wanting more.
Grimes understands the complex constructive abilities required to create a synth pop song and actually makes it sound fresh and infectious -- not just another tune that gets lost in the mix the the never-ending new age music movement. When the song began, I thought it could have just been a typical synth pop song with no real diversity, but then the beat came in, and soon thereafter the vocals, and then I realized that even if I wanted to hate this song, I couldn't. It's just too damn catchy and woozy and melodic. I don't know if Claire Boucher is in on this project alone or if she's got a team but either way, it's working.
"Oblivion" is just one song off of Grimes' LP, Visions, set to release on January 31, 2012. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for any more single releases.
