Why do we like this?
I initially passed over the last Greyjoy track ("Distance") that got sent to us, with our big boss Jason eventually reviewing it. As soon as it went up I regretted my decision, and proceeded to play it over and over for a couple of days. Lucky for me, I get to rectify my earlier error and give you my thoughts on the Perth duo's new single "Idle Thoughts."
This is the definition of how dream pop music should be made. Slick bass and misty vocals immediately bring bands like Phoenix and The Neighbourhood to mind, with the almost psychedelic riffs adding some flavor to the track. I don't think I could enjoy a track much more than this one.
This is the work of a band approaching the peak of their powers, which makes their current lack of recognition all the more surprising. With the release of their debut EP just next month, I'm sure Greyjoy won't stay under the radar for too much longer.
