Why do we like this?
This vocal jazz tune snuck into my periphery through a good friend. Gregory Porter is a Grammy-nominated vocalist whose range expands over genres. "Be Good (Lion's Song)" is the single from the album of the same title. Featuring mostly instrumental numbers, the album's title cut is a smokey and soft, bittersweet story. Though the tale is lovelorn, the combination of Porter's voice, the swaying bassline and soft, shuffling drums are ever so sweet.
Porter's voice is big, but soft, powerful and used very precisely whether in a belt or a whisper. Though he's a natural in a jazz tune, the accomplished artist has been a vocalist on House records and an actor on Broadway plays. Already garnering well-deserved acclaim for his sophomore album, Gregory Porter should just be settling into his stride.
