Gold Coast-based singer/songwriter GOVS (Josiah Birrell), an old favorite of mine, has released a number of tracks this year. Given that we're already in November, I'm starting to think about putting together my favorite tracks of the year, and singles "Merseybeat" and "I've Never Seen a Ghost" are bound to come into calculation next month. Now I'm going to have to add a third GOVS track to the mix, because his latest single "Holy Infinity" is another winner!
Produced in his home studio, there's an incredible warmth in his releases, and this track continues that trend. It opens stripped back, with Birrell's soulful vocals the focus, and then things build at a steady pace while still maintaining a lush, dreamy feel. The introduction of a generous, lathering of trumpet on "Holy Infinity" proves to be the perfect addition, providing a wonderful balance to the steady, driving percussion rhythm.
This is the first single from GOVS upcoming EP (due out early next year), and has been paired with a video that you'll find just below.
