Gorillaz continue to set sail in new directions on their newest single, the bouncy dance track "Doncamatic (All Played Out)" featuring up-and-coming British artist Daley.
Recorded just a few weeks ago, the first post-Plastic Beach single is a bubbly dance track that plays like a third-phase "Dare." According to the YouTube posting, the inspiration for the track came from the Donca Matic, a Japanese designed drumming machine.
Meanwhile, Gorillaz's Plastic Beach tour has finally washed up on North American shores. Playing their first show this past weekend at the Bell Center in Montreal, the band tore through an extensive set list that included tracks from all three Gorillaz albums including live additions from their classic 2001 debut Gorillaz, "19/2000" and "Tomorrow Comes Today."
Gorillaz don't appear to be trying to escape the Plastic Beach anytime soon either, as front-man Damon Albaran has said there's enough leftover material for multiple Plastic Beach sequels. If that's not enough, they've also brought along a mobile recording studio, for anyone in the band to lay down tracks on the road. With a touring band that includes half the Clash in Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, soul legend Bobby Womack, Little Dragon, De La Soul and rapper Bashy, I have a feeling there'll be no shortage of new material.
