Why do we like this?
Recently, I've noticed a number of bands classifying their sound as vintage pop. If you're wondering what type of music this genre is, take a listen to Newcastle (Australia) five-piece Goldsmith. After a number of their previous singles found their way onto local radio, they've just released their latest track, the dreamy "Backbone."
Recording their music in a homemade basement studio, they have called upon a vast array of influences (from funk to Polish folk apparently!) to create a truly lush sound. Everything's done well on this track "“ from the airy vocals, to the flowing guitar, to the smooth percussion "“ all the elements group together perfectly.
Goldsmith's talent is obvious; they're a great indication of the abundance of quality bands who call Australia home. Hopefully their home-studio sees plenty more use in the near future.
