It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Brisbane-based producer Golden Vessel and Melbourne songstress Woodes. The two artists have already unleashed some excellent individual releases this year, including Woodes’ “The Thaw” and Golden Vessel’s “Never Know”. “Vines” comes from Golden Vessel’s recently released Before Sleep EP, and it’s a polished offering that highlights the combined production prowess of these two talented artists.
Opening with Golden Vessel’s trademark fluttering synths, the track quickly builds into a world of woozy and laidback electronica. Woodes’ vocals simmer on top, showcasing her silky tones without ever overpowering the underlying instrumentals that bubble with scattered beats and flickering synths.
In the same way a vine slowly embraces a tree, Golden Vessel and Woodes steadily weave together intricate layers of sonic textures. Beats branch out to interrupt the airy vocals, moments before the vocals twist downwards in harmony with the sinking bass.
You can catch both artists live in Australia soon as Golden Vessel supports Willow Beats in December (more info here) and Woodes appears as the main support for Ngaiire from 25 November (tickets here).
In the meantime, treat yourself to Feki’s electric remix of “Vines” here.
