Mysterious Aussie producer Golden Features has returned with their first single of 2015, "Baxter."
As complex as it is catchy, I love everything about this brooding track. You're first drawn in with atmospheric ambience, building slowly before briefly giving way to a light beat and pitch-shifted vocals. You're soon thrust back into progressive, eerie ambience once again. After the environment builds to an appropriately haunting, smoky level, the big drop hits, leaving you with a dark, metallic beat and all sorts of weird and wonderful synthetic sounds filling in the gaps.
Every phrase gives something new and different, and I can't stress how much I love that. A lot of music like this really bores me, so it's incredibly refreshing to hear a track with the vitality and variety that "Baxter" shows off.
This is the first track from Golden Features' forthcoming XXIV EP, set for release later this year.
