Why do we like this?

When baroque pop duo Gold Spectacles landed in my inbox, I was a little dubious: the term "˜baroque,' to me, immediately calls to mind tinny harpsichords and men in grey wigs playing lutes.

Fortunately, this London-based songwriter/producer collaboration has proved me oh-so-wrong. With an eclectic range of musical influences ranging from Phoenix to the more tangible Paul Simon tones, Gold Spectacles "“ who formed back in 2012 "“ have refreshed the alternative pop genre with their enchanting debut "Steal You Away" (set for release on January 25).

From the almost Spanish-style opening guitars to the distinctive percussion, charming harmonies and sweetly innocent lyrics, there are several layers of loveliness going on here. I look forward to hearing more.
