Why do we like this?
Ever since I picked up Lucky Shiner, I have been salivating for some more Gold Panda. Thankfully, the wait for his second LP, Half Of Where You Live, is almost over (please June 10, hurry up and get here sooner).
I just can't get enough of what has become his signature blend of instrumental hip-hop and electronic. Truly a master of using random samples, Gold Panda has been able to put entire tracks together using one word, or finding ways to meld international music with hip-hop beats. Few produces have such a knack for combining bits and pieces into beautiful new art -- kind of like a musical collage.
The newly released track "We Work Nights," off the forthcoming album, continues the pattern. It features some haunting Asian-esque samples placed delicately over an electronic backbeat filled out with synths. This is just another example of how Gold Panda can take international sounds and use them to help his tracks be more organic and alive in the process. Gold Panda is truly a master of his craft.
