Why do we like this?
It's a far cry from oOoOO, but I feel like Glasser might fall into this vague new genre of "witch house," which uses signifiers of noise, drone, or shoegaze to recontextualizes its forebears into a sinister, unprecedented, yet aesthetically referential atmosphere [1].
Frankly, you can make up a genre for almost anything. And many people do. The better names are able to associate two groups with unique, but similar sounds. Zola Jesus comes to mind as someone else in this witch house genre; Florence + The Machine not so much, but she's certainly got a voice similar to that of Cameron Mesirow, lead singer of Glasser. You can check out our review of her debut album here.
Lindstrøm's remix of her single "Mirrorage" attempts a 'claustrophobic' reinterpretation of the song, creating an epic, dark, almost-eight-minute track that rises and falls in a manner that'll probably melt your ears just a little bit. It certainly enchanted me.
