This song’s opening lyrics say the singer doesn’t want to be dramatic, but that statement is quickly retracted when the beat drops immediately after. The deep bass, which is powerful enough to break your speaker, caught my ear at first. However, after listening a few more times I picked up on the guitar being plucked and a drum set that hovers over the line of haunting and old-school rock.
I’m usually one for relaxing, folky sounds or dance tracks that any club DJ would spin, but to my surprise, this song was enough to get me hooked on Girlpool’s slightly goth vibe and obscure style. The duo’s consistent use of mysterious and low instrumentals were addictive, even for someone like me who finds this sound out of their comfort zone.
Girlpool dropped this single in March, following their full-length album,What Chaos Is Imaginary, that was released last year.
