Snowfall. Forested mountains. Sunrise glistening over lonely ice plains. A deeply melancholy track, "I Fell In Love" strikes a chord with my penchant for sad yet bleakly hopeful music.
Gidge is a Swedish duo from the subarctic city of Umeå. No surprise that members Jonatan Nilsson and Ludvig Stolterman are said to draw much of their inspiration from "Scandinavian surroundings of native forests and snow." They signed to the label Atomnation earlier this year, and "I Fell In Love" is a preview of their upcoming debut LP to be released in the months ahead.
"I Fell In Love" is a lush and emotive tune, layering melodies and light percussion as it builds into a slow climax. I fell in love with the beautifully stark piano intro that blends with longing vocals into a wistful bounce. Somehow, this track is at once somber and uplifting. It is an enchanting dance lullaby that will help you close your eyes, get lost, and dream.
