An Emotionally Distant Surf Day
German indie band Giant Rooks gives us high-energy sad with "Morning Blue" -- an alt-rock psych surf menagerie layering disappointment, romance, and joy.
It's hard for a surf rock track to give itself over to the 'sad,' as it's not something surf rock accredits itself to, and yet, with "Morning Blue" Giant Rooks give us a mashup of alt-rock energy, surf rock joys, and the destruction of an indie folk narrative.
It's a sneaky little track, pillaring its joyful sound high above its hidden theme of broken romance, moving on and getting it all back in line. It's loud, playful and a good old indie rock bop welcomed at any beach, sunset drive, or day bar.
It's a joyfully broken track that's all about forgetting 'them.'
