Geographer’s single “Need” off their latest LP Ghost Modern brings everything we love about the band into fruition: the gorgeous harmonies, the ethereal instrumentals, and the emotional lyrics.
In many of the songs on Ghost Modern, Geographer have shifted away from their trademark synth-heavy accompaniment, but revisit it again in "Need."
This time, they explore the aesthetic of 80’s synth, with a dark tone and reverb-heavy drums. Of course, lead singer Mike Deni’s melodic voice takes center stage, and it meshes quite well with the slightly abrupt and distorted background effects. The tension between soothing harmonic and lo-fi electronic definitely makes for an enjoyable listening experience, and we are always intrigued to watch Geographer evolve while remaining true to their token sound.
