Geoffrey O'Connor has a pretty special place in my heart. I originally heardhis debut solo single, "Whatever Leads Me To You," on the radio almost three years ago. This introduced me to the buzzing, thriving music culture of my hometown, Melbourne. The flawless songwriting, sparkling production and unashamed pop sensibilities were enthralling, and kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for new material from this seriously underrated gem.
Last year we loved "Jacqueline," the first taste of O'Connor's long awaited new album, and its recently released follow-up single, "Her Name On Every Tongue" only continues his winning streak. Groovy drum programming, washed out synthesizers and even some old-school vocoders create a lush, flowing bed of sound, supporting Connor's drawling vocals and beautifully poetic lyrics.
Geoffrey O'Connor's new album,Fan Fiction, is out on cult Melbourne label Chapter(Twerps, Dick Diver) on August 8.
