This discovery comes courtesy of my dear friend, Jimmy, who has supposedly been listening to this entire album four times a day since recently discovering it... Well, I can't say I blame him. Coming in at only 35 minutes long across 10 tracks, Sanctuary is the fourth album from London indie rockers, Gengahr. This album perfectly encapsulates what indie rock is all about: diverse influences, meaningful songwriting, and guitar riffs that make your heart sing.
Upon listening to the opening track "Everything & More," I was transported back to my first experiences with indie rock. Feelings of calmness and excitement built up as the song slowly surged through the speakers, the guitar announcing its arrival and asserting its dominance. The drums are outstanding as well, sitting perfectly in the mix and providing great energy. And of course, the soothing tone provided by lead singer, Felix Brushe, creates an atmospheric quality to the song.
This album only gets better; each track providing a unique feeling and a new message. Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed Sanctuary and which track was your favorite.
