Former frontwoman of Company of Thieves, L.A.'s Genevieve has begun carving out a fine solo career for herself, starting with her recent single "Colors." It was one of my favorite pop songs of last year -- bright, catchy and invigorating. So, I'm particularly excited that her latest offering, "Human Again," is another home run.
More subdued than her debut, the track opens on a thin vocal loop, while synths and rhythms enter one by one. Suddenly, the airy melody swoops in and takes the lead. Add ambient instrumental layers and sparse percussion into the mix, and you've got one heavenly soundscape.
As the verse continues, the sanguine melody starts building up to the huge chorus. Those high notes really soar up above; it's uplifting, thrilling, and utterly captivating.
Genevieve's debut EP Show Your Colours drops on March 10, 2015 via Wind-Up Records.
