Why do we like this?
Sometimes, I like my summer synth pop with a dash of melancholy. Or at least an added dimension that makes it more than pleasurable background noise.
New Orleans duo Generationals has managed to do that quite well -- they add emotional layers to their throwback pop sound. Take the track "You Got Me," off their new (and free!) EP, Medium Rarities .
The shimmering, lilting hook soothes you as you listen, almost causing you to forget the raw vulnerability of the lyrics; "Every single night, you've got me aching all the time." The two are at odds with each other, and the effect is lasting.
