Why do we like this?
The first thing I thought of when I heard this song was someone gently whispering, "shhhhh." This is as relaxing and chill as it gets. Massachusetts' own Gem Club have released this somber teaser from their debut full-length album, Breakers, set to drop on September 27. This was the first song I've ever heard from Gem Club, and I was instantly intrigued and soothed.
As I began to listen to "Twins," I felt as though I was embarking on a mythical journey which might've included wandering through the forest and unexpectedly finding a hidden cave filled with glowworms. "Twins" starts off slow and dim and holds steady to that throughout the entire song. It begins with an echoing piano and is soon accompanied by clear, lulling vocals. Next comes a beautifully weeping violin and soon thereafter, a cello and a delicate xylophone. All the while, the lyrics yearning for something more.
Although this song is quiet and soft, it speaks volumes. It's deeply moving, it's sparkling, it's heavenly. There's no tour in sight for Gem Club but at least there's a promising album coming out next month! Take a few minutes, turn down the lights, open the windows and lose yourself to Gem Club.
