Gaze boils up the waters of old memories, tunes their instruments, and delivers shoegaze hindsight.
Gaze originates from the coastal city of Cape Town and "Last Look" has an immediate sunset sound to it — it's the wailing guitars, the heated drums, and echoed lyrics, it's the cutouts, the push and pull of the instruments against the vocals. It's all a garage rock anthem to a setting sun.
A sun setting on a shoegaze tradition - heartbreak - a lyrical exploration of youthful romantics and all the terrible fallout from it. "Last Look" crumbles as the sounds build and overwhelm themselves — self-sabotage incarnate in magnificent ways.
"Last Look" is a pastel-colored romance with the knife of hindsight slashed right through it and it's something immense.
